Wonderline Generation 3 Bonefish
Orvis says its newest Wonderline is slicker than previous generations, with tapers designed to maximize the actions of modern graphite rods. The 8-weight Bonefish has a stiff, braided monofilament core with a 10' rear taper, 261⁄2' belly, and 51⁄2' front taper. Our tester’s saltwater wanderlust resulted in a Wonderline that collected casts from Ascension Bay to the flats of Crooked, Acklins, and Mayaguana islands. “The line is a sweet match on the ZG Helios, but I’ve had equal success with it on the 8-weight CrossCurrent GLX, and over-lined on a super-fast Sage TCR. For wary, high-pressured bones, I typically fish a 10- to 12-foot leader with a couple of feet of 8-pound fluorocarbon tippet. With this setup, the Wonderline’s taper allows for smooth turn over when casting weighted flies to spooky tailers, but also has enough muscle to punch through 20 mph wind when powerful casts and laser loops are mandatory.” The Bonefish is available in sizes 6- to 10-weight. www.orvis.com
