Tibor series
Ted Juracsik is a master tool and die maker who revolutionized the saltwater fly reel market with the anti-reverse Billy Pate reel in 1976. After years of consulting with saltwater pros like Pate, Lefty Kreh, Flip Pallot, and others, in 1995 Juracsik came out with the simple and elegant Tibor series of direct-drive reels, which to date have accounted for more than 250 IGFA fly rod records. This is the grand-daddy of saltwater large-arbor fly reels and has the most basic drag system: a flat cork disc pressed against the aluminum spool face. This “Keep it simple—stupid!” design is less sophisticated than many competing high-tech reels on the market, but our testers and editorial staff have used them on tuna, tarpon, permit, bonefish, roosterfish, Pacific and Atlantic salmon and more than a dozen other species and never had a failure or lost a fish due to a flaw in the reel.
