Spey XLT
When fishing buddies Steve Choate and Way Yin showed up at the 2002 Musto International Open Spey Championship, they were tourist participants competing for their first time against 50 of the world’s most experienced Spey casters. When they took first and third place respectively, and Choate won the event with a tie-breaking 50-yard single Spey, it set the two-handed world on its head. Previous Musto champions used a European style to shoot long casts with short-head lines. Choate and Yin achieved distance by carrying line in the air, and used extreme long-belly lines they spliced together themselves. Just a few months later Yin was consulting with Scientific Anglers to design the ultimate long-belly Spey line: Spey XLT. The line has been refined and is now offered in sizes from 5-weight up to a “competition size” 1065 grains (12-weight).
