NV
NV (pronounced “envy”) reels have a married carbon fiber/cork drag surface similar to Nautilus CCF reels but the surface area is 75 percent larger, and the NV is lighter (7.6 oz for a 10/11) due to the titanium drag shaft, ceramic micro bearings, and thrust bearings. These elements reduce weight, and create space for increased drag surfaces. Our tester called the drag “slick and flawless” and said it had an amazingly smooth drag under high tension—and zero startup inertia.We asked Kristen Mustad at Nautilus about the unusual combination of smooth yet heavy drag. He said the NV uses lightweight thrust bearings to support a high axial load, so the drag remains consistent while still providing 15 pounds of drag. Other drags deliver similar drag levels, but lose their smoothness under tension because they use standard bearings.
