 Helios rod blanks are already among the lightest on the market, but Orvis wanted to take it one step further with a stripped-down cork and ring reel seat, a titanium-frame stripping guide with a NanoLite ceramic insert, and Recoil guides. The result is the Helios Ion. The 6' 2-weight weighs 7⁄8 oz, making it the lightest functional fly rod we’re aware of. The 7'9" 5-weight Ion weighs in at a skinny 11/4 oz making it by far the lightest 5-weight on the market. The 4-piece rods are best suited to technical spring creeks and mountain cutthroat or brook trout streams where quarters are tight, the flies are small, and every cast counts. www.orvis.com
