Named after the brake system of Formula 1 race cars, the F1 is Ross’s top-end freshwater reel with the company’s most sophisticated drag system to date. It uses a carbon fiber-to-stainless steel drag with 2 square inches of surface area, and eight independent contact points to reduce start-up inertia and  make the drag both smooth and powerful. The sealed drag has ten separate O-rings, not just to keep sand and grit out, but also to prevent water from affecting the drag surfaces. The constant-torque drag knob has a 56:1 mechanical advantage, meaning that no matter how much tension is on the drag itself, the drag knob does not become more difficult to turn. The spool pops off quickly and easily, and a clutch bearing engages the drag instantly without slippage or free-spooling.
